the Dark times, episode 3 part 3

The cast:-

Darjan: Human force adept (Tony)
Kel Orta: Kel Dor jedi knight (Kev)
Cyrus: human jedi knight (Dave)
Sai Rye: human soldier (Chris)

A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away

Still on Nar Shadaa, the team is deep in discussion aboard the Ravager. Kel Orta reveals that the holocron contains information that the Jedi order would not approve of, giving details of several dark side techniques. Darjan suggests destroying the holocron saying no good will come of it. Cyrus and Kel Orta agree on keeping it but not on how to use it. The one thing they agree on is that the holocron will not go to Black Sun. They also agree to explain to Black Sun that they could not capture Barin. As they are in discussion Sai Rye receives a message asking him to return to Nixor station (shadowport) to meet with his contact, and to bring his new friends with him.
Kel Orta contacts dock control for take off clearance, and realises that the ship is being held by the landing pads tractor beams. Kel Orta and Sai Rye head out to the landing pad control booth to see what is going, Darjan and Cyrus man the weapon turrets, not realising that Kel Orta had locked the weapons system to ‘safe’.
On reaching the booth, Kel Orta realises that the operator is dead, as they turn to head back to the ship the booth explodes and they dive away to avoid the explosion. As they get to their feet, Sai Rye catches a bullet in the arm, as they sprint towards the ship they spot 6 snipers on far rooftops taking shots at them. They reach the ship and blast off.
20 days later the Ravager arrives at Nixor station to meet up with Victor, Sai Rye’s contact. After docking Sai Rye leads the team to the Duck & Dive, a cantina where they can meet Victor. On the way, Cyrus is recognised as ‘the wookie killer’, as his fight was shown on Nar Shadaa and his fame has spread widely. After some harsh words the team scares off his fans and moves on.
Arriving at the cantina, the team meets with Victor and heads to a back room for a quiet discussion. The team learns that Victor and his employer oppose the empire, and is trying to fight against it. Victor can’t offer the team much money but may be able to arrange repairs and fuel at friendly ports, and asks that they do not do anything to support the Empire. He is also ok with them working for Black Sun as long as it doesn’t conflict with his employers agenda. He also gives them a job, there is an Imperial listening station on Hypori that he wants destroyed in the next 5-6 weeks.
The team picks up some cargo and jumps for Ryloth, travelling on main trade routes it only takes 13 days to get there. The team lands and meets up with Jazzer, they explain what happened and is clearly disappointed, he thought they were employees who got things done. After some thought, Jazzer explains he has a simple job for the team, he wants a Twil’Lek agitator killed at a public meeting, very visibly and very messily, to send a message.
The agitator is Tark’o, he is arguing against the great Ryloth tradition of selling slaves, and is gathering a small following. Jazzer is offering 25,000Cr to the team for killing Tark’o, and will also give them 3 slave girls each. Also if they kill any of his sons at the meeting he will give them an extra slave girl per son.
The team accepts the job, and begin to make plans....

Descent 2 boardgame minis

Finally finished some minis from the Descent 2 boardgame, so they are now off my 'to do' list, freeing up some space on the never ending list for more 1/2 painted minis.

Am particularly happy with how the elemental looks, was well worth the time spent getting the flames to look right. This hot-lead fire theory web page was very helpful, as it is too easy to highlight it the 'wrong' way, putting the lighter highlights at the top.

The first 3 photos were taken outside, gives a better idea of the colours on the minis.

A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away

On Nar Shadaa, in pursuit of Barin for Black Sun, the team looks up an old contact – Rika the Hutt. Rika is unavailable but his no.2 Vara takes the call and hooks them up with a slicer droid R2-FU. The team learns that Arvo the Hutt is a rival of the current owner of the Kessel club, and that Rika would be appreciative if something were to happen to the Kessel club.

The team sneaks round the side of the club, and R2-FU slices into some of the club camera feeds. They don’t spot Barin but pick up in a cloaked figure in a dark corner who has people coming and going. After a quick mind trick the team confirm that the cloaked figure is Barin.

Darjan and Sai Rye head in whilst Kel Orta & Cyrus stay outside as backup. In the club Darjan and Sai Rye get a table near Barin. Darjan uses the force to get a read on Barin, who immediately realises what he is doing and locks eyes with him, before asking the 2 of them to join him at his table. As they approach they see Barins face change back to human. After some chat, Cyrus and Kel Orta join them at the table.

Barin explains that the crystal he stole from Black Sun is a holocron, and he suggests that he can give the team a lot of money if they let him go, as well as potentially training them with the information he has gained from the holocron, and he gets Darjans commlink frequency.  As they are talking, only Kel Orta notices a group of 4 bounty hunters approaching with blasters drawn.

The hunters disregard Barin, ordering the team to leave their weapons on the table and come quietly. Looking up, Darjan uses the force to bring down a light fitting on 2 of the hunters, as he does so Cyrus flares with anger, and looses a vicious force slam killing all 4 of the hunters. In the chaos the team flees, Cyrus slowly feeling the anger subside within him. Looking back as they leave, there is no sign of Barin.

The team head to a quiet cantina to consider their options. The holocron is a tempting prize, immensely useful to them as they no longer have jedi masters to learn from. It could also be useful for any other force users. But letting Barin go would have Black Sun on their tail. In the end they decide to try and apprehend Barin, sticking with Black Sun. Checking in with Vara, they get 10,000Cr for causing a mess at Arvo’s club.

Hatching a cunning plan, they move the Ravager to another landing platform and install a cryo chamber and obtain some wookie tranquiliser, so they can keep Barin unconscious once they capture him. As the team is installing the chamber, Kel Orta heads into the slum are to try and locate Barin. After spending most of the day searching, Kel Orta finds Barin, and they sit down to talk. Barin explains he is glad Kel Orta found him, as he has been looking for an apprentice, to help him cleanse the galaxy with purifying flames.  Kel Orta is unsure what to say. Barin slides the holocron over to him ‘a gesture of good faith, you will find me if you wish to take up my offer’ and them leaves.

Kel Orta returns to the Ravager, updating the team on what he has learnt, and then retires to meditate on the holocron. It glows as he focuses on it, then slowly the image of a dark cloaked figure projects from the holocron.....

the Dark times, episode 3 part 1

The cast:-
Darjan: Human force adept (Tony)[not present]
Kel Orta: Kel Dor jedi knight (Kev)
Cyrus: human jedi knight (Dave)
Sai Rye: human soldier (Chris)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away...

After arriving on Ryloth, the team has hooked up with Jazzer, a member of Black Sun. He has taken them on as members of the organisation, and pointed out the commitments they have made, which basically can be summed up as loyalty for life (which goes both ways, Black Sun will provide all their needs as long they stay loyal).

Jazzer explains the job to them. He wants a human called Barin, brought back to him alive. Barin is believed to be in Hutt space, he will pay them 75,000Cr if they can do the job in 2 months (60 days), with a 25,000Cr bonus if they can do the job in 1 month. He also gives the team a cred chip to keep their ship fuelled as they travel.

In order to pick up leads on Barin, the team travels to a shadowport on the edge of Hutt space, a shadowport they have visited before...

After docking they head to the cantina to try and pick up info about Barin. Kel Orta & Sai Rye pick up info suggesting Barin could be on Nyrvona or Saki. Cyrus has a bit less luck, although at the bar he is recognised by some of the patrons, who remember him from when he defeated a wookie in single combat in the slave arena to earn some credits.

Cyrus becomes very popular as he buys drinks for everyone and enjoys the adulation of the cantina patrons, a crowd flocks in to see and speak to the only human to have defeated a wookie bare handed. Sai Rye notices that some of the shifty looking patrons leave the bar. Having got the information he wants Kel Orta leaves the bar.

After a few hours and drinks the excitement subsides and Cyrus leaves the bar to head back to the ship, Sai Rye follows discreetly as he is suspicious.

As they walk through the station, Sai Rye spots a group of 3 wookies taking an interest in Cyrus, who is as usual oblivious to the whole situation. Suddenly Cyrus spots the door ahead of him seal shut, as he turns he sees a large wookie, and at the other end the corridor is sealed by the other 2 wookies.

The wookie snarled at Cyrus, who is too shocked to say anything. The wookie strikes with precision and technique, wounding Cyrus, who is unable to make any significant strikes against the wookie. Wounded again, Cyrus draws his lightsaber but this does not deter the wookie who tries to grapple him, and when this fails continues to pummel Cyrus.

Sai Rye, having heard the commotion hacks the local computer system to override the door lock, but Cyrus is too pre-occupied to see it. Kel Orta feels a disturbance in the force, and warms up the ships engines.

In desperation Cyrus uses the force to slam the wookie to the ground, and surges out through the door diving past the other two wookies and sprinting back to the ship....

A short hyperjump later, the Ravager arrives in the Nyrvona system. Landing on the surface the team bribes port control for information about Barin, and discover that he was arrested their about a month ago, but managed to escape. Sai Rye notice on the news feed that there is an upcoming pay per view fight of 'jedi vs wookie' on the galaxy sports net. They also learn the Barin is a Devaronian.

Arriving in the Saki system, the Ravager is attacked by 3 fighters (uglies, cobbled together from parts of various scrapped fighters).  After some fancy flying and accurate shooting 2 of the fighters are driven off and the third pilot ejects. The pilot is brought on board and questioned, he was hired by a Bith called Barin, and he is to meet Barin on Nar Shadaa in the Kessel club to receive payment.

Arriving on Nar Shadaa, the team leaves the ship on one of the higher level landing pads, and heads down into the sprawl to the Kessel club, as they travel they spot more and more signs for the upcoming transmission of 'the fight of the century, wookie vs jedi'....

Anvil industries parts

Recently got some running legs and SAW's from Anvil Industries.  They sell resin parts in their own range to make complete minis, as well as bits that are compatible with 28mm miniatures, and were very good fits to some 40K marines.

The prices are excellent and my order arrived very quickly. The resin parts have needed very little cleanup, and what little bit there was was easy to remove.

rear shot of the legs, nice detailing on the back

On the edge, part 3

Had a quick go at the edges on a crisis suit, not the neatest attempt but even so it really makes a difference to the look of the mini, especially when put next to one without it.

Tuesday 3 June 2014

on the edge, part 2

More progress on my Tau XV88 Broadsides, edge highlighting added, first attempt last week and the highlight was not 'bright' enough, hardly looked like anything had been done, tried again using some GW ice blue, came out looking good and really makes them pop.

Good thing about the Tau minis is that they have a lot of well defined edges, need to keep practising the edging so will be going back to the red crisis suits to try the technique on them as well.

Next its a bit of detailing and tidying up, then the XV88's will be fit to be called 'done', lol.

Riff-Raff-GG6

The Gymsnor-3 light freighter was a long, segmented craft capable of transporting 95 tons of cargo. This light freighter was armed with a turret-mounted laser cannon which gave it better protection against pirate attacks than the old blaster cannons in the Gymsnor-2 light freighter, its precursor. In addition, the ship's entire forward cockpit module could be detached as an escape pod. CorelliSpace designed this freighter to compete with the YT series produced by Corellian Engineering Corporation, but these aspirations failed. The Gymsnor-3 was very rare outside Corellian space.

Crescent-class transport

The Crescent-class transport or Crescent-class freighter was a 30-meter-long delta-winged ship manufactured by Hyrotii Corporation.

It could be flown by a single pilot and carried up to eight passengers. It was considered to be a "rich-kid toy", but some Crescent-class ships were upgraded with non-standard weapons systems, and in fact a Mark II version existed for military use.

Helix class light freighter, the Ravager

Helix-AJ5

The Helix-class light freighter was an armed freighter manufactured by Arakyd Industries that could easily be considered the equal of many starfighters. A second generation was also produced, the "Model B."

The original model of the freighter had a Class 1 Incom Corporation GBp-625 hyperdrive, whereas the Model B came with a Class 2 GBp-629 hyperdrive.

Both variants of the craft had a LBE flight control computer, 4 H-L Block ion drives, a Class 12 backup hyperdrive, 80 fuel cells, and an atmospheric capability of over 1050 kilometers per hour along with great maneuverability.

A duranium-kathor composite hull was protected by shields. The craft boasted a Plasburst laser cannon belly turret, and 1 forward dorsal concussion missile launcher that carried 5 missiles.

Star Wars the Dark Times, episode 2

A writeup of Monday nights Star Wars Saga edition rpg session.

the Dark times, episode 2.
The cast:-
Darjan: Human force adept (Tony)[not present]
Kel Orta: Kel Dor jedi knight (Kev)
Cyrus: human jedi knight (Dave)
             Sai Rye: human soldier (Chris)

A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away...

On Tatooine, the team considers its options. They check around the spaceport and price up a few freighters, weighing up their options compared to their tight budget. The team can’t agree on a ship

That evening Sai Rye heads to the Mos Eisley Cantina to meet his contact and purchase a datachip with information on it for his employer. Cyrus and Kel Orta tag along in case of trouble. Darjan remains in the hotel room meditating.

In the cantina, Cyrus and Kel Orta spot an old acquaintance, Raze Ornil, a member of Black Sun. Whilst Cyrus and Kel Orta talk to him, Sai Rye meets Cyana Daneb, his contact that has the datachip, they negotiate and she wants too many credits for the information (40,000Cr). Raze passes pleasantries with the two knights, and they agree to meet later to discuss if he has any work for them. As Sai Rye leaves the negotiating table, Raze heads over and starts negotiating with Cyana.

In the Cantina , Kel Orta notices that they are being watched by a quarren, who leaves the bar, Kel Orta follows him outside and overhears him on a comlink saying ‘targets confirmed’. Kel Orta uses his comlink to warn Cyrus and Sai Rye.

Inside the cantina, a couple of thugs pick a fight with Cyrus, and quickly regret it after he takes them down without even spilling his drink. Cyrus and Sai Rye leave the cantina, as Kel Orta sneaks back in through the back door.

Walking along the street, Sai Rye spots a couple of people tailing them, so they duck down a dark dead end alley to lay an ambush. Cyrus stumbles as he enters the alley, and the bounty hunters open up with blasters. In the darkness of the alley Cyrus starts slicing with his lightsabres as Sai Rye firs his heavy blaster pistol. The hunters draw vibroblades but soon decide to withdraw as Cyrus’s sabres do their work. As the fight subsides, Sai Rye spots another bounty hunter on the rooftop at the end of the alley, Cyrus uses the force and leaps up to the rooftop to chase the third bounty hunter. Sai Rye doesn’t pursue the 2 bounty hunters, as the sound of approaching clone troopers makes him think better of it. Cyrus catches the rooftop hunter, knocking him out.

Meanwhile in the cantina, Kel Orta has been discussing work with Raze. He offers Kel Orta 20,000Cr if he can get the datachip from Cyana without it being traced back to him. Kel Orta turns on the charm and buys her a few drinks, then calls on the dark side of the force to persuade her to give him the chip, making her think that the Jabba’s thugs in the bar will come and take it off her. Kel Orta give the datachip to Raze, who is so impressed he pays Kel Orta 25,000Cr for the job, and tells him to contact Jazzer on Ryloth if he wants more work.

Deciding that Mos Eisley is becoming a little hot for them, the team head to the far side of town where seller of the Ravager is sleeping in his ship. After quick negotiations they get the ship for a bargain price. Contacting the port control, they find that the port is in lockdown by Imperial order. Blasting off anyway they pickup 6 v-wing fighters on an intercept course.

Kel Orta opens up the engine of the Ravager, rocketing through the Tatooine night sky heading towards the canyons in the desert to try and shake the fighters. On sensors, the fighters split in half, 3 moving to cut off the canyon area. Kel Orta pulls a crazy ivan and engages the 3 fighters behind him. Sai Rye fires the plasburst cannons whilst Cyrus opens up with concussion missiles. The surviving v-wing peels off and checking sensors again, a Venator destroyer is detected in high orbit, trying to cut off their escape vector. Luckily the Ravager is faster than the destroyer, and gets a clear run, making the jump to hyperspace.

10 days later the team arrives above Ryloth, the fuel tank down to 25%. They make landing at a backwater landing field, and contact Jazzer to try and arrange some paying work....
